Homemade Scanner Antenna?

I am considering making a scanner antenna out of Telescopic Rabbit Ears....all i need to get is a Female Coax to BNC Male connector...I was wondering if these Rabbit Ears would actually pick up frequencies?

Rabbit ears are a poor choice for a scanner antenna. They have a figure 8 pattern or in other words pick up from the 2 sides of the rabbit ears, not from all directions. Rabbit ears were designed to work with televisions which have a 75 ohm impedance. Scanners and 2-way radios have a 50 ohm impedance. While they will work to a certain extent they won't work as well as an omnidirectional antenna designed for use with 50 ohm equipment.
